Program Overview

This certificate provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to gain a broad and interdisciplinary understanding of Asia. It can be earned by any undergraduate student at Augusta University, and is perfect for anyone who wants to expand their understanding of Asia and Asian languages. Asia is becoming a larger and larger part of the American experience, and the courses in this program will help the next-generation of Augusta University students prepare for this future. And this credential will be meaningful credential to employers and graduate programs, looking for broadly trained candidates.

Language Requirement: 6 Hours

CHNS 1001 - Elementary Chinese I (3 Credit Hours)
CHNS 1002 - Elementary Chinese II (3 Credit Hours)
With approval from the program director, this requirement may also be met with:
- Six credits of approved Asian language transfer credits, or
- Six credit of approved coursework on Asian Study Abroad trips

Electives: 9 Hours

HIST 3211 - History and Culture of East Asia (3 Credit Hours)
HIST 3220 - Modern China (3 Credit Hours)
HIST 3250 - Modern Japan (3 Credit Hours)
With approval from the program director, this requirement may also be met with courses that have substantial content about Asia.
