Program Overview
The Education Specialist in Advanced Educational Studies program allows candidates to build upon existing knowledge and skills as a practitioner. Education specialist degree completers possess advanced knowledge and skills to develop and design curriculum, implement instructional methods that are data-driven and responsive, and assess instructional practices that facilitate student learning. Also, candidates gain the ability to use fundamental applied research methods informed by theory and inquiry to address everyday, practical educational problems.

Concentration areas include: Secondary Education Biology, Secondary Education Chemistry, Secondary Education Earth Science, Secondary Education Economics, Secondary Education English, Secondary Education French, Secondary Education German, Secondary Education History, Secondary Education Mathematics, Secondary Education Physics, Secondary Education Political Science, Secondary Education Science Education, Secondary Education Spanish, Special Education, Elementary Education, English Speakers of Other Languages, Art Education, Health and Physical Education, Music Education, Middle Grades Education, Secondary Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, and P12 Drama.
Electives: 9 Hours
Electives may allow the educator to add an endorsement such as gifted, reading, STEM, ESOL, or Computer Science. Electives must be selected in consultation with the advisor from the following:
- EDCI 6000-7000 level course (3 credit hours)
- EDTD 6000-7000 level course (3 credit hours)
- EDUC 6000-7000 level course (3 credit hours)
- KNHS 6000-7000 level course (3 credit hours)
