BMNT 5101 - Nutrition and Community Health (1 Credit Hour) This course is designed to provide all entering first year dental students with the introduction and overview of basic concepts in health promotion and community health. In this course, current USDA nutrition guidelines are discussed, various aspects of nutritional ounseling with patients are addressed. Major nutritional problems encountered in the clinical practice of dentistry are discussed. A philosophy of wellness emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention as an integral component of dental practice. A total of 28 ours of lectures, seminar and community service activities are provided so the at students will gain the necessary knowledge and skill regarding the philosophy, modalities, rationale and evaluation of oral health promotion and disease prevention activities in community and public health.
