BMHD 5101 - Host Defense, Pathogenesis, and Management of Infection (5 Credit Hours) This course presents lectures on microbiology, immunology and pharmacology. Mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis, clinical features and diagnosis of bacterial, viral, rickettsial, and mycotic infections, particularly those that present with oral manifestations are discussed, along with host immunological responses and infection control. The students will be provided with a working understanding of pharmacology and pharmacotherapeutics of antimicrobials as applied to dental practice.
