ANTH 5851 - Religion, Culture and Society (3 Credit Hours)

This course examines the theories about the origins of religions and how religious belief shapes and is shaped by human behavior and thought. The course will examine basic concepts such as ritual, myth, and symbolism through consideration of a wide range of religious practices and beliefs. Case studies may address topics such as shamanism, cults, withchcraft, magic, healing, and the social power of religion. Prerequisite(s): Permission of instructor.
