PTHP 9144  -  Medical Conditions 4



Prerequisites: Successful completion of previous DPT coursework. Student groups will work through problems and case studies related to patients with lower and upper limb amputations. Students will address the pathology, impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities associated with amputation. Emphasis will be placed on examination, evaluation, intervention and physical therapy diagnosis related to patients with amputations. Content will include: 1) all previously learned examination skills such as assessment of sensation, range of motion and strength, 2) previously learned interventions such as wound care, post-operative care, therapeutic exercise, and home programs, 3) new examinations, evaluation, intervention and physical therapy diagnosis skills related to the patient with an amputation, and 4) new information related to prosthetic prescription and prosthetic training. Basic science principles will be integrated with examination, evaluation and intervention.
