Master of Science in Clinical Dental Research

Program Overview
This 2-year program is designed to provide students with the skills and tools to design and analyze clinical dental research. Emphasis is placed on biostatistics, study design, various study types and their indications, ethics, epidemiology, clinical trials, and more. Investigation of clinical dental problems centers around previously published examples of various study designs. Presentations of research and scholarly works are presented by guest lecturers from various institutions. Upon graduation, graduates will matriculate the clinical dental research as experts within clinical dental research processes.

Admissions Information
- Minimum of a DMD/DDS degree from a CODA accredited college or university. To be used to satisfy degree requirement, evaluation of foreign educational transcripts must show degree(s) earned that are the U.S. equivalency of degree(s) required by the program.
- Official transcripts are required from all universities and colleges ever attended. In the case of transcripts from international colleges/universities, an official course-by-course transcript evaluation will be accepted in lieu of an official transcript. Official electronic transcripts should be emailed from the issuing institution to Augusta University’s Office of Graduate Admissions Operations at graduateadmissions@augusta.edu. Alternatively, Augusta University will accept official transcripts in the original, unopened, sealed and stamped/signed envelope mailed from the issuing institution directly to: Augusta University, Office of Graduate Admissions Operations, Summerville Campus, Benet House, 1120 15th Street, Augusta, GA 30912.
- Recommendations (which include a reference form and letter of recommendation) from three individuals are required. Referees should be individuals qualified to critically assess the applicant’s prior academic (usually college professors), employment, research and/or clinical experience (clinical or research supervisor/manager) and qualifications (as applicable) as well as the applicant’s potential as a graduate student in the field/program selected. Recommendations must be submitted online only. Within the application, provide the names and current email addresses for the individuals you have asked to serve as your recommenders. Once you have completed the recommendation section within the application, each recommender will receive an email notification directing them to the online site where they can complete their recommendation.
- Passing score on the Integrated National Dental Board Exam (INDBE) or GRE score of 290. Either score must be within the last 5 years. Official scores are required.
- English proficiency exam scores are required for applicants whose first language is not English and who do not qualify for an English proficiency exam waiver.

Progression and Graduation Requirements
Students must:
- Maintain a GPA above a 3.0 or will be put on academic probation
- Cannot receive below a “C” in any course
- Complete CITI training for Group 1, Group 7, and Good Clinical Practices
- Establish an account on IRBNet.org
- Complete all coursework in a master’s degree program within 3 years, calculated from the start of the first course that counts toward the degree.
- Students who have not completed degree requirements at the end of 3 years may not be able to count courses older than 5 years toward their degree. Instead, they may be required to take additional program courses to complete the required number within 2 years.
- If more than a year lapses between a student’s courses, the student is considered to have withdrawn from the program. Such students must reapply, and they are subject to the admission and program requirements in force at the time of their new application. Acceptance is not guaranteed even for students previously admitted, and courses taken prior to the interruption of studies might not count toward degree requirements depending on the admissions committee’s decision.
