Accelerated Bachelor of Arts with a Major in History to Master of Arts in Intelligence and Security Studies


Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Intelligence and Security Studies (MAISS) prepares students and industry leaders to address the intelligence and security challenges in an interconnected world.  This accelerated degree plan seeks to give students an understanding of the historical as well as strategic and policy ramifications of national and international security and war.  The coursework is focused on inter- and intrastate conflict; terrorism and counterterrorism; and national, regional, and global strategic security and cybersecurity threats.  The program prepares students for careers in the areas of strategic security policy, intelligence analysis, and for advancement in military, law enforcement, and academia.

Admissions Information

Progression and Graduation Requirements

Students applying for this program must:

  • Apply for the accelerated degree before their senior year.
  • Have completed at least 30 hours of coursework at Augusta University.
  • Have an overall cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Be within 30 credit hours of graduating with a BA in History
  • Have written permission of the chair of the department of the undergraduate major to use the graduate level courses as acceptable substitutes to fulfill related requirements of the bachelor’s degree (students must satisfy all prerequisites for those graduate courses).
  • Meet all requirements for admissions into the MAISS program and be in good standing with the university (except for receipt of the undergraduate degree)
  • Submit an application for admissions in the spring semester of the junior year to the Accelerated Bachelor’s-Master’s degree program, along with all necessary admissions documentation to The Graduate School according to institutional policy.

Once accepted to the program, students must:

  • Take three of the following courses during their senior year in both the BA and MAISS program:
  • Only count up to nine credit hours of MAISS courses during dual enrollment toward both the BA and MAISS requirements.
  • Graduate with the BA.
  • Continue with MAISS degree to complete all other degree requirements.
  • Students must maintain a 2.7 in the MAISS program in order to graduate.
