Minor in Biology

Program Overview

The Biology minor offers students a strong foundation in biological principles through coursework and hands-on lab experiences. It complements a variety of majors and enhances preparation for careers or advanced study in health, research, and environmental sciences.

Progression and Graduation Requirements

  • Students minoring in biology should see a biology faculty member as early in their careers as possible. Major-minor combinations that combine biology and/or cell and molecular biology are not permitted.
  • Courses taken to satisfy General Education/Core IMPACTS  may not be counted as coursework in the minor.

Prerequisite Courses


Prerequisite courses do not count toward the minor, but they are required to be taken in order to enroll in courses that are included in the minor. 

Minor Requirements


Upper-Division Courses: 15-18 Hours


In consultation with their major department and the Department of Biological Sciences, students select 15‑18 hours from any upper-division biology courses. A grade of C or better is required in all courses toward the minor.
