Accelerated Bachelor of Arts to Master of Arts in Intelligence and Security Studies

Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Intelligence and Security Studies (MAISS) prepares students and industry leaders to address the intelligence and security challenges in an interconnected world. The coursework is focused on inter and intrastate conflict, terrorism and counter-terrorism, and national, regional, and global strategic security and cybersecurity threats. The program prepares students for careers in the areas of strategic security policy, intelligence analysis, and for advancement in military, law enforcement, and academia.

Progression & Graduation Requirements

Students applying for this program must:

  • Apply for the accelerated degree in their junior year.
  • Have completed at least 30 hours of coursework at Augusta University.
  • Have an overall cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or better.
  • Be within 30 semester hours of graduating with either a BA in Criminal Justice or a BA in Political Science, or a BA in Integrated Studies (or other majors upon approval).
  • Have written permission of the chair of the department of the undergraduate major to use the graduate level courses as acceptable substitutes to fulfill related requirements of the bachelor’s degree (students must satisfy all prerequisites for those graduate courses).
  • Meet all requirements for admissions into the MAISS program and be in good standing with the university (except for receipt of the undergraduate degree)
  • Submit an application for admissions in the spring semester of the junior year to the BA to MAISS program, along with all necessary admissions documentation to The Graduate School according to institutional policy.

Once accepted to the program, students must:

  • Take 3 of the following courses during their senior year in both the BA and MAISS program:
    • SECR 6600, SECR 6906, SECR 6911, PADM 6351, or 6411 
  • Only count up to 9 credit hours of MAISS courses during dual enrollment toward both the BA and MAISS requirements.
  • Graduate with the BA.
  • Continue with MAISS degree to complete all other degree requirements.
