Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice

Program Overview

The objectives of the Associates of Criminal Justice program are mostly similar to the BACJ program though more limited in breadth and depth since fewer upper division courses are required. We seek: (1) to provide students with some of basics of a liberal arts education by requiring some of the core offerings required at AU; (2) to prepare students for professional careers in Criminal Justice organizations or in private and public sector organizations which interrelate with, or are impacted by the Criminal Justice system; (3) to foster an introductory understanding of the Criminal Justice system as a whole and the interrelationships of its components; (4) to promote an understanding of how the Criminal Justice system is related to other social institutions; (5) to begin to develop practical skills in such areas as interpersonal relations, communication, management, and counseling; and (6) to encourage students to understand the importance of education for those working in the field of Criminal Justice.
