Bachelor of Arts with a major in Communications and a concentration in Theatre

Do you love films? Are you excited about promotions? Interested in learning to produce a radio show or shoot a documentary? How about acting? Enjoy debate and public speaking? All of these are possible through coursework in the Department of Communications.

The B.A. in Communications has five concentrations from which to choose: Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Television/Cinema and Theatre.

Extracurriculars include: Monday Night Film Series, Film Club, Public Relations Club, Bell Ringer newspaper, Phoenix magazine, annual speech contest, theatre productions, and Lambda Pi Eta National Honors Society.

Scholarships: Communications Majors are encouraged to apply for departmental scholarships. Information is available in the main departmental office in Allgood Hall.

Internships: Many internship possibilities are available for students in the Department of Communications. Information is available in the main departmental office in Allgood Hall.

Theatre students have the opportunity to study acting, directing, design, history of the theatre, and theatre technology.  The university’s theatre produces several shows a year where students can get hands-on experience as actors, playwrights, directors, designers, stage managers, and technicians.

Careers in Theatre
Many career paths are open to individuals with theatrical skills. Some of those opportunities include:

Makeup artist
Lighting designer
Stage manager
Scene designer

Major Concentration: 30 Hours


(Grade of C or better is required for all major courses)

Minor Concentration: 15-18 Hours


Electives: 12-15 Hours


Wellness Graduation Requirement: 4 Hours
