The political science program is focused on the study of politics, governmental systems, and the making of public policy. The objectives of a major in Political Science include: providing a broad background for careers in public administration and other forms of governmental service; preparing students for graduate study in political science, journalism, international relations, and public administration; preparing students for enrollment in professional schools in law and business; and training for specialized careers in research and teaching. (All Political Science Majors are required to take an exit exam and participate in an exit interview. Students are also required to place three papers from upper level classes in portfolios maintained by the department).

Core Area F: 18 Hours
(Grade of C or better is required in all Area F courses)

Electives in Social Science: 0-9
Major Concentration: 30 Hours
(Grade of C or better is required in all these courses)
Six hours in American Politics from: 6
Six hours in International Relations/Comparative Politics from: 6
Three hours in Political Theory from: 3
Twelve hours from any other 3000 and higher Political Science courses: 12
Electives: 28-30 hours of which at least 15 must be at the 3000 or 4000 level
Wellness Graduation Requirement: 4 Hours
Total Hours for the Degree: 124-125
