Department Overview
In the Department of English and World Languages (EWL), students are immersed in a liberal arts education that prioritizes the development of humane values and a passion for life-long learning. EWL students hone professional skills that prepare them for successful careers in diverse fields. Students gain intra-disciplinary knowledge and communicative proficiency in English and several world languages. Students develop an interdisciplinary understanding of literature and world cultures, as well as the race, gender, and class dynamics within these cultures. Through course offerings and co-curricular activities, EWL fosters the development of advanced reading, writing, critical thinking, and research skills.
