NURS 7160 - Foundations of Advanced Practice Mental Health-Psychiatric Nursing
Prerequisite: Admission to the School of Graduate Studies and NURS 7390 Pathophysiology.
This course provides an orientation to the professional and scientific foundations of advanced practice psychiatric nursing. The evolving role of advanced practice psychiatric nurses will be placed in the context of the current healthcare system. Focus will be on the science underlying two models of evidenced-based treatments; biological interventions and behavioral therapies. The course will emphasize research findings from genetics, epidemiology, neurosciences, and behavioral sciences which underpin mental health promotion and preventive interventions, and evidence-based treatments for psychiatric and substance use conditions.
