    This course will explore the basic principles of translation and interpretation, the theory, the methods, the challenges, the problems, and the satisfaction involved in rendering both written texts and oral statements from one language to another without losing the basic ideas, the intent, the stylistic level, and the linguistic register. It will focus on the means by which cross-cultural communication can be facilitated and the actual process of translating-what the translator does, and why (i.e. how translators make decisions of language, style, format, and cultural equivalency).
