EURO 4430 - EU Environmental Policy (3 Credit Hours) A survey of critical issues in European Union environmental policy, including the historical origins of environmental policy, the difficulties of implementing changing regulations, the role of EU governance in policy implementation, and the future prospects for EU success in environmental regulation. These issues are examined in comparative context, using the United States as the other case. The course looks at how environmental policies are made in both the US and EU in the context of multilevel governmental systems of different types. It also examines how the US and EU have addressed similar environmental problems, and the extent of transatlantic cooperation in dealing with global environmental issues.
