Program Overview

The MAT is a graduate level initial teacher certification program. This program is designed for candidates that have obtained an undergraduate degree in a field outside of education.

Progression and Graduation Requirements

Students must successfully pass BOTH Test I and Test II (001 & 002) of the GACE Content Assessments for Early Childhood prior to Student Teaching.
MATH 5241 - Numbers and Operations for Teachers (3 Credit Hours) must be completed prior to MATH 5243 - Algebra, Probability and Data Analysis (3 Credit Hours) .
All employed MAT candidates must complete the edTPA assessment by the third semester (excluding summers) of the program. All other candidates will complete the edTPA assessment during student teaching.

Certification Requirements:

SPED 4002 - Teaching Students with Disabilities in the Inclusive Classroom (3 Credit Hours)

Successful completion of State Certification Exam (GACE II).

Program Requirements:

If the State Certification Exam is passed, content is deemed to be satisfactory. Areas of content weakness will be addressed as prerequisites as determined by the appropriate Pamplin College of Arts and Sciences department(s).

State Certification Exams (GACE II) in content area must be passed prior to student teaching.
