Certificate in Hospitality Administration

The hospitality industry is growing regionally and globally, in part to Millennials’ preference for spending on experiences over possessions. A segment of the services industry and a compilation of two industry codes (Arts, Entertainment and Recreation, NAICS 71, and Accommodation and Food Service, NAICS 72), hospitality is one of the world’s largest industries. Internationality, Hospitality Administration is a popular, growing field of study as employers’ needs grow for managers and directors of a variety of hospitality operations.

The local and regional needs are evident due to large events such as the Masters Tournament, the Iron Man Competition, Arts in the Heart, James Brown Arena, Bell Auditorium, Lady Antebellum Amphitheater, etc. The certificate will provide students with the opportunity to initially gain foundational knowledge specific to the Hospitality Industry through the required courses and then apply the foundation knowledge through opportunities such a study abroad, internships, and upper division courses tailored toward more specific topics such as MKTG 4760: Resort and Facility Strategies Course requested by the Augusta National Golf Course.

Students who have completed the Certificate in Hospitality Administration will be able to:

  • Apply the principles of hospitality administration to the business of marketing and managing, both of which are potential customers and front-line employees in the arts, entertainment, and travel industries.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of differences between marketing hospitality products versus traditional goods and services.
  • Apply knowledge of consumer preferences and global trends to the creation of hospitality products and services.
  • Demonstrate use of teamwork and leadership skills in creating solutions to business problems specific to the hospitality industry.
