Minor in Humanities

The fifteen-credit-hour Humanities minor is designed for students who wish to study art, literature, music, and related fields
beyond the two required World Humanities courses. It allows students to explore arts and culture from an interdisciplinary
perspective. A student who plans to minor in Humanities should complete an application for the minor during the semester
in which the student is enrolled in World Humanities II (HUMN 2002). The form is available on the Humanities Program
website. The student will then select courses in consultation with a Humanities advisor.

Prerequisites


(Grade of C or better)

Upper‑Division Courses: 15


(Grade of C or better is required in all these courses)

You may count up to 9 hours of appropriate study abroad (i.e., courses numbered 3000 and above).

Select a total of 15 upper-division hours, to be distributed as follows:


Select 6 to 12 hours from at least two different areas Art, Music, or Literature:


Art:

Select 0 to 6 hours from these other approved courses:

Anthropology

Any ANTH course numbered 3000 or higher

Philosophy

Any PHIL course numbered 3000 or higher

History

Any History course numbered 3000 or higher

Honors

Additional Information


Variable content courses listed above (e.g., 3900, 4900, 4950, 4990, and SABR 3930 , SABR 4930 ) will be appropriate for the Humanities minor when focused on the arts, culture, history, or philosophy. All variable content courses must have prior
approval from the student’s Humanities advisor.
