NURS 4608 - Concepts of Rural Nursing
The course focuses on the organization and functioning of nursing within health delivery systems in rural areas. Emphases are placed on social, economic, and cultural variables that impact on rural health, and on the responses of rural communities, health agencies and hospitals to these unique healthcare needs. Students conduct a rural community assessment and develop case studies and plans of care for patients with long-term healthcare problems who reside in specific rural areas. A comprehensive field trip is included with presentations from a wide variety of rural healthcare providers.
