NDPT 7141 - Clinical Physiology I: Medical Physiology
Grade Mode: Normal, Audit Prerequisite: Successful completion of Semester I courses. This course provides the physiological knowledge base for understanding homeostatic mechanisms and interaction of organ systems required of every physical therapist. Mechanisms of control and regulation of cardiopulmonary function, pain, edema, inflammation, stress, immobility, lymphatic function, temperature regulation, gastrointestinal functions, endocrine and autonomic nervous system effects are emphasized. A basic introduction into the principles of pharmacology is also provided. Each physiological process is studied with particular emphasis on changes that occur secondary to variables such as injury, disease, age, environment, and gender. This course is first in a series of two clinical physiology courses in the curriculum.
