PSRY 5017 - Clinical Neurobiology Research Sem



Prerequisite: PSRY 5000 The objective of the Clinical Neurobiology Research Seminar will be to familiarize the student with current topics in the clinical neurosciences. Emphasis will be placed on a critical reading of the literature, with teaching focused on methods of evaluating the integrity and context of the research literature. Topics will focus on the relationship of behavior to brain chemistry. Discussion will highlight the functional role of different neurotransmitter receptor subtypes, neuropeptides, and second messengers in regulation of stress adaptation, and the expression of cognitive, emotional and perceptual behaviors. The course will review selected advances in behavioral neuroendocrinology, neuropharmacology and the genetic bases of personality. Each student will be required to write a review paper for course completion. The goals of the seminar will be both to contribute toward the development of the student’s interest in a particular area, as well as to integrate an understanding of where the field is advancing relevant to future physician careers.
